So it seems a bunch of people who were my age watched pro wrestling back in the 90′s, myself included. Honestly, it was the best time to be a fan because you had 2 options to choose from: WWF (now WWE) RAW and WCW Monday Nitro. Most people chose RAW but I chose Nitro.

Watching WCW, I came to develop a few favorite wrestlers. Namely Sting, Booker T., Ric Flair, Goldberg, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and my top favorite, Diamond Dallas Page watched WCW clear up to March 2001, when WWE acquired the company for what Ted Turner (WCW’s former owner) would consider chump change. I watched as Vince McMahon completely fumbled the ball in his opponen’ts end zone with the “Invasion” storyline and that was the end of me watching wrestling.

I follow a lot of people on Twitter. Friends, athletes, announcers, brands, and yes, wrestlers. DDP was one I follow and once I saw that he was going to be on RAW so I had to tune in. It had been 10 to 11 years when I last saw DDP in a wrestling ring.

It was a short segment where he put the Diamond Cutter on some guy (editor’s note: Heath Slater) bad-mouthing past WWE Legends like Vader, Sid Vicious, Roddy Piper, and Doink. In my mind, DDP is NOT a WWE Legend. He is a WCW Legend who got BURIED when he signed with the WWE as part of their failed “Invasion” angle. From World Title-holding Main Eventer in WCW to mid-card jobber in WWE. That is the textbook definition of a pro-wrestling “burial.”

But DDP seems to be doing well these days promoting his brand of yoga, called “DDPYoga.” And it looks like this is something I’ll need to purchase once I start making money again soon.

Anyway, here’s video of the segment DDP was in last night on RAW. It was certainly nice to see my favorite wrestler on TV again, even if it was only for a few minutes.

Christmas has come early for college football fans this summer in the form of a 4-team playoff format to determine a champion.

An oversight committee made up of college presidents and chancellors have determined that there will be a selection committee selecting the 4 best teams (they haven’t revealed the criteria yet) that will play, and the sites will rotate among 6 bowls.

This playoff goodness starts in the 2014 season. We are down to the last 2 years of the Bowl Championship Series, and quite frankly, it has entered “lame-duck” status. The new playoff deal will be a 12-year deal.

My hunch is that the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA), Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, AZ), Cotton Bowl (Dallas, TX), Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, LA), Chick-fil-A Bowl (in Atlanta, GA; formerly known as the Peach Bowl) and Orange Bowl (Miami, FL) will be the 6 bowl sites included in this exclusive club.

How about that? College football will finally have a true champion starting with the 2014 season…and here’s hoping WVU makes history and becomes the first official college football National Champion.
